The ban on certain halogen lamps introduced in the EU in 2018 hurt the industry's sales performance. Larger producers of electric lamps outsourced the manufacture of halogen lamps and increasingly focused on producing automotive LED lightbulbs or networked lighting solutions. In 2020, there was a slump in sales in the automotive market thanks to the coronavirus crisis, which postponed downstream production. In addition, in September 2021, the EU banned all halogen lamps and implemented more stringent energy labelling regulations. These measures incentivised lamp manufacturers to develop more energy-efficient lamps. However, halogen lamp manufacturers have lost out.
