Spectrum Brands sells Hardware & Home Improvement category to Assa Abloy
To streamline its product offerings down to three categories and become a pure play consumer goods distributor, Spectrum Brands entered into a definitive agreement with Assa Abloy to sell of its Home Improvement sector. The flagship brand in this segment is Kwikset, a manufacturer of locks and other home-based security devices. The deal will leave Spectum in the pet care, garden, and personal care products segments, and with $4.3 billion in cash that Spectrum plans to use for deleveraging and returning value to shareholders.
