Kirkland & Ellis LLP defends trans rights in the military
September 9th, 2021 Kirkland & Ellis LLP, in conjunction with Lambda Legal and the Modern Military Association of America, have succeeded in repealing a Trump-era law banning transgender individuals from military service. Kirkland & Ellis took on the case pro-bono, committing over 4 years and 16,000 hours to restoring president Obama’s 2016 lift on the ban. The case, which made its way to the U.S. Supreme Court in 2019, was deemed successful when president Biden repealed the ban in his first week in office. Kirkland & Ellis spent the remaining months of the case negotiating a favorable settlement on behalf of the plaintiffs for costs and attorneys' fees.
ESGIn response to volatile demand in the wake of the first COVID-19 surge, the company undertook a comprehensive cost reduction program, aimed at shoring up labor and supply costs.
